Comparative Studies of the STS (VDRL, Modified KolmerWassermann, RPCF and TPHA) in Prostitutes¢¥ Serums

Abstract
VDRL, modified Kolmer-Wassermann, RPCF tests and Treponema pallidum hemagglutination (TPHA) test were performed on the serum samples 386 prostitutes. Results were compared with the rate of discrepancy among each other test, and the following results were obtained.
1. Comparison of results of the positive VDRL to the TPHA test is given in Table 3. The overall agreement was shown by the 114 VDRL positive serum specimens compared with the TPHA test which was 89. 480, and disagreement of 10. 52d.
2. Comparison of results of positive VDRL and modified Kolmer-Wassermann to the TPHA test is given in Table 4. The overall agreement was shown by the 52(VDRL and modified Kolmer-Wassermann positive) serum specimens compared with the TPHA test which was 90.39%, and disagreement of 9.61%.
3. Comparison of results of the positive VDRL, modified Kolmer-Wassermann, and RPCF to the TPHA test is given in Table 5. The overall agreement was shown by the 36 (VDRL, modified KolmerWassermann, and RPCF positive) serum specimens compared with the TPHA test which was 91.67%, and disagreement of 8.33%.
4. Comparison of results of the negative VDRL, modified Kolmer-Wassermann, and RPCF to the TPHA test is given in Table 6. Fourteen or 87.5% of 16 specimens were reactive and 2 or 12.5¡Æo nonreactive to the TPHA test. It is difficult to say that with a small number of serum sample, the result of TPHA test may suggest that most of prostitutes have had chance to infection with Treponema pallidum during their past career, now they are cured clinically with penicillin and other treponemicidal drugs.
